Blue Brute Fittings

The perfect companion product for Blue Brute pipe is Blue Brute fittings. The fittings are available in 1 00mm, 150mm, 200mm, 250mm and 300mm (4″, 6″, 8~, 10. & 12″) for use with Class 100 (DR25) and Class 150 (DR18) Blue Brute pipe. For more information on fittings, refer to IPEX Blue Brute Fittings Brochure.

DESCRIPTION, APPLICATIONS, ADVANTAGES

The Right Fitting for PVC Pipe

Blue Brute fittings conforming to AWWA C907 are available in 100mm, 150mm, 200mm, 250mm and 300mm (4, en, sizes for use with AWWA C900 Class 100 (DR25) and Class 150 (DR18) Blue Brute pipe. Bends and Tees in 250mm (10″) and 300mm (12″) sizes are fabricated conforming to CSA B137.3.

APPLICATIONS

Blue Brute fittings are suitable for conveyance of potable water in municipal distribution systems, fire lines and other pressure applications.

Engineered for Strength

Class 150 Blue Brute fittings have pipe walls at least 125% of the wall thickness of Class 150 Blue Brute pipe of the same size. Made of 12454B compound, they have the same long-term hydrostatic strength as the pipe.

Corrosion Proof

Made of noncorroding PVC, Blue Brute fittings will not rust or corrode in aggressive soils. Consequently, costly sacrificial anodes and expensive protective coatings commonly used with metal fittings are not required.

Improves Water Quality

The smooth interior surface of Blue Brute fittings virtually eliminates encrustants such as calcium from adhering to its surface. Ultimately, the water distribution line stays cleaner longer and provides better water quality.

Gasket Options

All Blue Brute fittings are shipped with standard gaskets that accept cast-iron-sized PVC pipe. Should a more chemically resistant gasket be necessary because of ground contaminants, chemically resistant Nitrile gaskets are available.

Saves Time and Money

The same bell and spigot joining system proven with IPEX Blue Brute pipe is used with Blue Brute fittings. This gasketed joint system reduces installation time and provides significant labour savings over mechanical joint alternatives.

Saves the Environment

The precise tolerances used in the manufacture of Blue Brute fittings, combined with the Blue Brute gasket system, ensures tight joints capable of withstanding pressures five times the pressure class of the pipe. The results are bottle-tight joints which keep potable water clean and unwanted effluent out.

STANDARDS, QUALITY ASSURANCE

IPEX Blue Brute Fittings meet these standards:

bbpic06 Blue Brute Short Form Specifications

QUALITY ASSURANCE

Blue Brute fittings are subjected to the following quality assurance tests:

Dimensional Tests: The minimum wall thickness of the Blue Brute molded rifling body must be at least 125% of the wall thickness of Class 150 AWWA C900 pipe of the same size. Also, the wall thickness at any point of the bell must be at least the thickness of DR18 pipe.

The unobstructed inside diameter of the fitting’s body must not be less than the inside diameter of Class 100 (DR25) AWWA C900 pipe. Fabricated fittings must have Class 150 (DR18) inside diameters.

Material Tests: PVC compound must meet the requirements of cell classification 12454B according to ASTM D1784. The compound must also have a Hydrostatic Design ‘ Basis (HDB) of 27.6 MPa (4,000 psi) when tested as molded tubes in accordance with ASTM D1598 and D2837.

bbpic07 Blue Brute Short Form SpecificationsBurst Pressure Tests : Blue Brute fittings must have a Quick Burst Strength of 5.21 MPa (755 psi), the same as Class 150 (DR18) pipe, when tested in accordance with ASTM D1599.

Fusion Tests : Randomly selected fittings must pass the acetone immersion test ensuring optimum homogeneity.

Qualification Tests : Fittings are subjected to either a Sustained Pressure Test at 3.45 MPa (500 psi) for 1,000 hours, or an Accelerated Regression Test to demonstrate internal pressure strength of 3.24 MPa (470 psi) when 100 hours of data are extrapolated to meet the 100,000-hour intercept.

Gasket Options

The IPEX gasket has a proven design, allowing joints to meet ASTM D3139 requirements with ease. The gasket stays in place without glue. All Blue Brute pipe and fittings can be supplied with any one of the following gaskets:

  1. Standard Gasket Good for typical watermain applications where cast-iron-sized PVC pipe is being used.
  2. Nitrile Gasket For watermain applications where pipe must be buried in soil with hydrocarbon contamination.

Joint Deflection

Slight longitudinal deflections can be accommodated at the rifling bell itself (1°, or an offset of 100mm [4"] at the end of 6.1m [20'] length of pipe).

Thrust Restraint

Mechanical restraint collars are available for Blue Brute fittings. The restraint device attaches behind the rifling bell. Tie rods can run from the collar to a suitably sized collar on the connecting pipe. The use of joint restraint collars allows a compact layout in a crowded trench.

Contoured concrete thrust blocks also provide good restraint. For details on how to determine the appropriate concrete thrust block size, refer to IPEX Installation Guide for PVC Pipe and Fittings, or the latest edition of the Uni-Bell Handbook of PVC Pipe.

Fabricated Fittings

bbpic08 Blue Brute Short Form SpecificationsBends and Tees in 250mm (10″) and 300 mm (12″) sizes are fabricated. IPEX fabricated fittings offer the same benefits of an all-PVC pipe system.

They are manufactured from segments of Blue Brute Class 150 PVC pipe bonded together and overwrapped with fiberglass-reinforced Dolvester.

Fabricated fittings conform to CSAB137.3.
